Jennifer says:
Scorpio is the upcoming version of ColdFusion. If you missed MAX, you probably missed the latest news. Catch up with that and other things you might have missed Wednesday. RSVP by 4pm Tuesday at the BACFUG website if you think you might go. We won't hold you to it.

Should be a good one for folks who couldn't make it to MAX!
October 25, 2006
Ray Camden just posted his
notes from the Scorpio image processing session. Details are sketchy here but hopefully someone else attended the session and will post more detailed notes shortly...
Rob Brooks-Bilson
has done just that! Great set of notes Rob!

Two bloggers are covering Ashwin Mathew's session on the new-in-Scorpio server monitoring tool:
Rob Brooks-Bilson and
Ray Camden.
Ray Camden has written up a good set of notes on the
ColdFusion / .NET integration in Scorpio from the session today at MAX. I had no idea this was coming and I was initially pretty "ho-hum" about it as I started to read Ray's post. Until I got to the bit about being able to interact directly with .NET components
from a remote non-Windows server! OK, now
that is cool! I can happily live in my favorite *nix world and use ColdFusion to manipulate .NET components on those infernal Windows boxes over there in the corner. Awesome!
Update:
Rob Brooks-Bilson also wrote notes on this session.
Tony MacDonell has written up a nice piece explaining
how he's sees Apollo positioned in the world. I particularly like this comment:
If making an Apollo Chat Client, or Flickr Image Viewer, or News Aggregator for the desktop is all you can imagine, then expand yourself.
Folks at the MAX keynote saw much more than this already including, I think, two of the items from the next line in Tony's article:
Start with a Bitmap Image Editor, MP3 Player, Document editor, SWF compiler, Web Browser, Vector Illustration program, etc. Time to bust out file format documentation for the thousands of file types out there!
If you aren't there, you can still read all about it:

Rob Brooks-Bilson has created a
Flickr group for MAX 2006 so you can post pictures of the event or just use it to enjoy MAX vicariously.
As a general principle, I'm tagging this 'adobemax06' which is the 'official' preferred tag for everything related to MAX this year.

Ben Forta reports that
MAX 2006 will be the
best attended event ever. I've seen a lot of blog posts from people who are starting their journeys this weekend, heading out to Vegas for a week of keynotes, sneak peaks and a vast selection of technical sessions across the full gamut of Adobe products. I'm sure it'll be a great event!
Me? I'll be in San Francisco, helping the team put the finishing touches on Adobe Acrobat Connect which is "expected to be available in November 2006 as a free trial version through the end of the calendar year" (see the press release from September 18th).
It's also On Safari next week in Portland, OR which is effectively the Bengal breed national cat show.

The early bird price for
MAX 2006 has been extended to October 16th. The website has not yet been updated to reflect this (hence blog posts from Ben Forta, Matt Chotin and now myself). The early bird price saves you $200 over the regular price.

Ben Forta has blogged that
three ColdFusion sessions at MAX are actually about new features in Scorpio and are being presented by the engineers who are building those features. Definitely not to be missed!
September 6, 2006
According to Ben Forta, some
ColdFusion and Flex sessions are so popular they are selling out fast and there are already waiting lists for some of them! If you're still wavering about whether to go to MAX or not, you'd better hurry up and register otherwise you might miss out... and with that much buzz and popularity surrounding ColdFusion and Flex, you don't want to miss out, do you?

A timely coincidence: Ryan Hartwich offers his
thoughts about the value of conferences on Fusion Authority, just as I excuse myself from MAX. Adam Lehman will be taking over my Fusebox section of the frameworks debate and one of my colleagues will be taking over my partner summit sessions.
I have a personal conflict on the Thursday, the day of the partner summit, and since someone from my team will have to replace me there, I can't justify going because my team just has too much going on around that time.
I've been very lucky over the last few years to attend a lot of conferences - mostly to speak at them - even though it hasn't been core to my job. When you speak at CFUNITED, for example, and get all of your material in on time, your room is paid for which substantial lowers your budget. I've had to justify only the flight costs - and the time off work. Yes, time off. When I'm at a conference, I'm not "working" and that is a cost, just as Ryan points out, even for fully-funded employees.
I've said more than once that ColdFusion community work and conferences are "not my job" but this year the rubber hits the road and MAX is out, as is the upcoming TeraTech frameworks conference (likely January 2007, either in Florida or DC). Beyond that, I can't say... CFUNITED 2007 is probably out but I will make cf.Objective() 2007 even if I have to pay for that out of my own pocket and take vacation time to attend!

I just registered for Adobe MAX 2006 and booked my hotel room. Still need to book flights (awaiting more details about my exact schedule before I do that).
MAX 2006 links:
A change of plans mean that I am not attending MAX this year.
August 4, 2006
It seems that folks are having a hard time figuring out how much MAX costs this year. They're going to the
MAX 2006 home page and then scrolling down and clicking on the
Register for MAX today! which then presents them with a big ugly form. No, no, no, don't do that. On the MAX home page, look in the right hand navigation pod for the
Registration link. Early bird pricing runs through September 25th but
hotel rooms will book up early so don't delay!
Think $219 per night is expensive? The Venetian is usually a $400-$500 per night hotel so that's a good deal Adobe has for you. But if that's still too much, check out the Imperial Palace just down the strip. Easy walking distance and less than $100 per night. And it has an amazing classic car museum.
Hmm, I'd better book my room at the Venetian...

You can now register for
MAX 2006. The sessions & tracks are all listed as well. Plenty of ColdFusion sessions this year with a good range of levels. I'll be there as part of a
three hour session covering frameworks and methodologies - ColdSpring, Fusebox, Mach II, Model-Glue and Reactor will all be covered. Yes, Fusebox at MAX!

Adobe MAX 2006 has been officially announced. October 23rd thru October 26th at The Venetian in Las Vegas, NV. Not much detail available yet but you can subscribe to a MAX notification list to get the latest news as it happens.
January 24, 2006
I've noticed several people on various lists and blogs starting to ask about "MAX 2006" so I just wanted to point out that MAX 2005 was
announced in early April (2005) which makes me think it's a bit premature to be speculating about this year's conference...

Jennifer says:
At tonights meeting I'll be going over some new features and bug fixes in CF 7.0.1 (Merrimack). We will also be going over some details of upcoming product updates announced at MAX. Color commentary by Sean Corfield.
7pm tonight
601 Townsend at the corner of 7th St
1st floor meeting room on the left (Kojak)
San Francisco
This meeting will also be broadcast via Breeze: http://mmusergroup.breezecentral.com/bacfug1005/
See you there?
October 21, 2005
BACFUG will be meeting next Wednesday, October 26th, and the topics will be a recap of MAX for those who missed it and an overview of what's new in the recent ColdFusion MX 7.0.1 Updater. Speakers look like being Jennifer Larkin and myself. I expect it will be fairly informal and we welcome attendees who went to MAX and/or who are using CFMX 7.0.1 to contribute to the discussion.
What sort of topics would you like to see covered at future meetings?
