adobe.com - Powered By ColdFusion

May 2, 2006 · 12 Comments

Other people have commented but I wanted to add my own take on this... adobe.com now contains all of the former macromedia.com content and has an updated look'n'feel. The Web Team - my former colleagues - have done a fabulous job, in my opinion, in creating a unified, easy-to-navigate site that serves the needs of both Adobe customers and former Macromedia customers. Some of you have heard me talk (at length!) about the complexity and scale of content of the former macromedia.com site and the technology behind it. To that existing complexity has now been added all of the (former) adobe.com complexity and content. Behind the scenes, it's still "Dylan" - ColdFusion MX 7, JRun 4, the "/go" URL system etc - and you'll find adobe.com/cfusion and adobe.com/go URLs throughout the merged site, which should be familiar from macromedia.com of old. I've held my tongue while the community has speculated about what the merged site might entail because, well, until it was launched I don't think we had officially said it would be based on "Dylan". What surprised me was how many "chicken littles" out there were predicting that the merged site would be anything other than primarily a ColdFusion-powered site... Hopefully, the new adobe.com makes the ColdFusion community feel a bit more confident about the future, especially with ColdFusion being promoted right there on the adobe.com home page!

That is awesome job, and a big congratulations to the web team. I think the new Adobe site has a better styling thanks to the Macromedia influence and allows people to find things better and its more logically structured.

    Go team go!

KUDOs on mentioning the CF! We will definitely be pointing that out to our customers in our local user group.

Oh... you got it wrong by the way. Adobe is an old topic for the chicken littles now. They have moved on to talking about Apple and what they will do with CF! LOL

This is obviously a scheme by Adobe to fool us into thinking that the ColdFusion sky is not falling. Next they'll do another ColdFusion release, help sponsor CFUNITED even more, and add in more interoptability with Flex.

But they can't fool me! I'm on to them now!

LOL... not to mention that it is easier if code is written write to update code the plan out a whole new application. I seriously figure that this was the case since it was my understanding the Sean influenced much of the code standards. So that makes sense to reuse code.

Yet, I still think the sensible conclusion is that Sean has it right as a move towards the good for the CF community.

    It's awesome! :)

Please tell me they're still running Spectra and "Willis" under there somewhere! ;)

    Cheers

Niklas, as far as I know the two clusters in the Newton data center that run the Spectra and "Willis" applications are still there and still part of the overall website... but both have been scheduled for decommissioning for a long time... just as soon as we can get the content / functionality implemented elsewhere. But you know how it is - if it ain't broke...

    Hey Sean!

Now, I have to say, that is ALSO awesome! ;-)

"Willis" which is a good 8 or 9 years old AND Spectra still running! That puts a grin on my face! ;-)

    Cheers

Adobe.com well, I came across this posting and I just had to put my two cents in. I think, coming from someone who has been dealing with Macromedia for the past 8 or 9 years, that this website should have been tested more before being released to the public. I have come across TOO MANY 404 errors. This should not be acceptable and Adobe has still yet to fix them as of 5/11/2006. I tried to look up a Macromedia certification for a new person...404 Error, and thats just one. I reported the problem to Adobe a week ago. Still not fixed.

get used to it DaWayne, I was having similar issues (404 errors)and when i contact Adobe, I usually get a response after several weeks, but none that address my issues with Macromedia...Adobe--step up to the plate and read your email.

I still see many links pointing to wrong macromedia.com. Other day it took me a long time to update my flash player as the link was taking it to macromedia.com. Today I was trying to download the flex documentation it goes to macromedia.com. It is kind of frustrating that the static content has not been updated yet.

@Bhasker, please make sure to report any and all such bad links through the "Send Feedback" link which is on the bottom of every single page on adobe.com!
